Partnership for a Sustainable Community
Now in its fifth year, the Chamber's Partnership for a Sustainable Community continues to strengthen and support the Chamber's economic and community development work.
As the Chamber's charitable non-profit partner, the Partnership's mission is to apply business leadership to solve community problems and create opportunities. With strong community and business support the Partnership accomplishes this mission by focusing on the four areas:
- Convening leaders
- Educating and informing the community
- Building organization capacity; and
- Researching and reporting on important community information.
Donate to the Partnership
The Partnership enjoyed great success in 2015 including:
- Graduating the largest class of Leadership Fellows from the 10-week, Leadership Chapel Hill-Carrboro program.
- Researching and delivering the State of the Community Report to its largest audience,
- Recognizing our uniformed officers and community difference-makers at the annual Salute to Community Heroes, and
- Serving as the fiscal sponsor of several of our community's nascent non-profits.
Funded by the Performance Golf Classic, the Community Bocce Derby and a host of community and corporate underwriters, the Partnership is poised for an exceptional 2016 that will feature the bi-annual Inter-City Visit and Leadership Conference.
A powerful community convener, the Partnership brings together 100 diverse community leaders – local business owners and managers, elected officials, University faculty and staff, non-profit executives and volunteers, municipal and county staff, and media – for the biannual Inter-City Visit and Leadership Conference. This year the Inter-City Visit will be to Boulder, Colorado.
In a letter to Inter-City Visit participants, Chapel Hill Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt said, “These events, through the exchange of ideas and camaraderie, always strengthen our organizations and relationships, and as a result, our community as a whole.”
In Athens, the Partnership helped our community leaders learn from the experience of another progressive university community, better understand our assets, and build relationships that help us address successfully our local challenges and opportunities.
In addition to organizing the community’s Inter-City Visit, the Partnership produces Leadership Chapel Hill-Carrboro, a ten-week community education program designed to teach emerging leaders about our community and position them to successfully address community challenges and opportunities.
Summer 2013, the Partnership expands the Leadership Chapel Hill-Carrboro program to include Executive Leadership, a two-day conference designed to connect participants to our community's movers and shakers and generate meaningful dialogue among panelists and participants about government, education, community challenges, entrepreneurship and economic development.
The Partnership also collaborates with the Chamber to produce the State of the Community Report, data that outlines how Chapel Hill and Carrboro perform as a community and how we stack up in retail spending, adult health and air quality compared the Triangle and state. We compile and present this data annually to track the well-being of Chapel Hill-Carrboro along social, economic and environmental indicators.
The Hundred Club of Orange County is a community supported fund that provides immediate financial support to the families of Orange County first responders killed in the line of duty.
