    Picture a time when you needed to talk and arranged to meet a friend for coffee. What would happen if your car broke down? Or if you couldn’t meet your friend for several months? Now imagine you need to buy groceries or get to the doctor. These are struggles that plague our seniors every day – the problem is, you can’t help an individual who is hidden in their home. That’s where we come in. A Helping Hand is a local nonprofit that provides companionship, transportation and community outings to seniors and adults with disabilities. Since 1995, we have refined our person-centered matching process to ensure meaningful interactions and compatible companions for our clients. Companions provide a variety of non-medical services – from home-cooked meals to trips to the pharmacy – that allow local seniors to remain in their home. Services for seniors and adults with disabilities include: -Companionship -Social engagement and conversation -In-home assistance -Light housekeeping and home organization -Meal preparation -Escorted transportation and errands -Door through door transportation to medical appointments -Respite care The services provided by part-time care companions improve a client’s quality of life, increase their physical and emotional wellbeing, reduce social isolation, and improve access to health and human services. If you are passionate about life and improving the community, we value your time and talents. All companions are required to drive a car and preference is shown to individuals with a flexible schedule.
