January 26, 2006 — You can give your old cell phone a new life by donating it to the Family Violence Prevention Center of Orange County. Donated phones are provided to victims of domestic violence so they can call 911 in an emergency situation.
Phones can be dropped off at the following collection sites:
• Family Violence Prevention Center office, 201 East Rosemary Street (corner of Rosemary and Henderson), Chapel Hill
• Carolina Women’s Center at UNC, Chapel Hill
• Whole Foods Market, Chapel Hill
• Cup A Joe, Chapel Hill and Hillsborough
• UNC School of Social Work, Chapel Hill
• Margaret’s Cantina, Chapel Hill
• several other sites throughout Orange County.
Donors are asked to deactivate their service before dropping off phones.

As the domestic violence agency serving Orange County, the Family Violence Prevention Center assists victims of domestic violence, their family and friends, and the community. Services include a 24-hour hotline, crisis intervention and emotional support, emergency shelter placement, civil and criminal court advocacy, support groups with free child care, a teen dating violence prevention program, and community education and training. All services are free, confidential, and available in English and Spanish.
