Annual Chamber Awards

The success of our Chamber and community hinges on the vision and selfless acts of service of many local leaders. To demonstrate our gratefulness, the Chamber presents several annual awards in conjunction with three key events:

  • Annual Meeting: The first major convening of the year for Chamber members, when the Board of Directors reports on past performance and shares the vision for year ahead. Over a delicious breakfast, the Chamber presents four awards, including: the Chair’s Award for Public-Private Partnership, the Chair's Award for Excellence in Service to the Chamber and its Members, Chamber Ambassador of the Year, and The Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award.

  • Business Excellence Awards (or BEAs): A luncheon and awards ceremony on Friday, June 16, where the Chamber Board and staff honor the best in business. The awards include: Best University Born Business, New Business, Micro-Enterprise, Chapel Hill Young Professional (CHYP) Under 40, Mid-size Business, Business Woman of the Year, Large Business, Community Impact, Non-Profit, and Innovation Award. Learn more about the 2023 Business Excellence Awards here.

  • Salute to Community Heroes: Each December, at a meaningful and festive evening event, the Chamber and its Partnership for a Sustainable Community award twelve local heroes. The awardees are first responders and outstanding community volunteers who have demonstrated remarkable, selfless acts of service. The event is free, open to the public, and refreshments are provided. The awards include: UNC Department of Public Safety Officer of the Year, Carrboro Police Officer of the Year, Carrboro Firefighter of the Year, South Orange Rescue Squad Member of the Year, Chapel Hill Police Officer of the Year, Chapel Hill Firefighter of the Year, Orange County Sheriff Employee of the Year, Orange County Emergency Services Employee of the Year, Jim Gibson Volunteer of the Year, Town and Gown Award, Irene Briggaman Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Citizen of the Year.
