Drivers License
Newcomers have 30 days to get a NC Drivers License at the examiner’s office in Carrboro Plaza Shopping Center, Hwy 54 & 54 Bypass, Carrboro. The fee for a regular operator’s license is $10. For more information, call 919-929-4161.
Automobile Registration
There is a 30-day limit to register motor vehicles and get a state license plate. The title fee is $35; plate fee is $25 for cars and $26.50 for trucks and vans. Newcomers must also pay a road use tax up to $150. Drivers must show a certificate of title and proof of liability insurance. Tags are available from the NC License Plate Bureau office at the University Mall, 201 S. Estes Drive, 919-929-0204.
Voter Registration
You may register at your county Board of Elections Office or at any N.C. Drivers License Office. You may also register by mail using voter registration forms, which are available at public libraries, the Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough Town Halls and the Chamber Office.
